Our District’s State Rep Cruz Meets with PCC

Rep Angel Cruz of the 180th Legislative District of Philadelphia meet with Greg Trainor and Kelsey Lee of the Philadelphia Community Corps (PCC) this Thursday morning. The purpose of this meeting was to provide Cruz a tour of the material reuse store, Philly Reclaim, which is the ongoing fundraiser that directly supports the PCC by selling reclaimed building materials, architectural salvage, and vintage home goods at extremely affordable prices.

Cruz immediately mentioned the reuse store that previously existed at this same location which was run by Impact Services. What Cruz didn’t know was that Impact’s Building Material Exchange shut its doors, leaving the space empty until scooped up by PCC nearly 2 years ago. As noted by Philly Reclaim’s Director of Acquisitions and Sales, Dempsey DiMedio, “previous customers of Impact Services still come here regularly to buy cabinets, kitchen fixtures, and replacement parts at a very low cost.” Unlike other salvage companies in Philadelphia, the majority of Philly Reclaim’s customer base is local. Although the organization will be expanding its programming to offer more options for recycled paint, workshops, custom woodworking, and eventually a tool library, it’s important that a resource like Philly Reclaim stays in the area and contributes to the revitalization of the local economy.
